The musicians in the Houston, Texas-based band The Jazz Crusaders cited Cannonball Adderley, Art Blakey and John Coltrane, among others, as influences. And on their debut album "Freedom Sound", recorded in 1961, these role models were still clearly audible. The band managed to strike a balance between creative hard bop and catchy soul jazz. The album marked the beginning of an extremely fruitful and successful ten-year collaboration with the Pacific Jazz label.
Blue Note Tone Poet Edition: Stereo, produced by Joe Harley, completely analog remastered by Kevin Gray from the original tapes, RTI pressing (180g), sturdy tip-on single sleeve, padded inner sleeve.
