  • The second part of "Black Man's Pride" also focuses on Roots Reggae from Studio One, and thus inevitably Rastafarianism. Connoisseurs of Jamaican popular culture know: the rise of Clemens Dodd's empire is closely linked to the Rastafarian movement. From the Skatalites and the Wailers in the 1960s to star singers such as Alton Ellis and Horace Andy and The Gladiators in the 1970s, key reggae figures felt a strong connection to Rastafarianism and were under contract to Sir Coxsonne.

As is typical for Soul Jazz, "Black Man's Pride 2" contains classics by well-known Studio One artists - Alton Ellis, The Heptones, Jackie Mittoo, The Gladiators - as well as some rarities such as the single "Let Freedom Reign" by the drummer group Mystic Revelation of Rastafari, Willie Williams' very first recording ("Calling") and Horace Andy's hard-to-find masterpiece "Illiteracy" as well as pieces by more unknown artists (High Charles, The Manchesters, Peter Broggs).

In addition to more in-depth information about Rastafarian culture and its relationship to Clemens Dodd, the booklet contains references to each song written by soul jazz author Rob Chapman.
