Victor Young

Victor Young (1900-1956) was a prominent American composer, arranger, and conductor. He is best known for his compositions in film scores, such as in The Quiet Man, Shane, and The Searchers. He was a musical director and composer of the most popular musicals of the day, including Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel, South Pacific, and The King and I.

Young’s most successful albums include Music For Dreaming (1953) and Music From Around the World (1954). His most popular songs include “Stella By Starlight”, “The Very Thought of You”, and “When I Fall in Love”.

An interesting fact about Victor Young is that he was the first composer to win an Academy Award for his score for the film Around the World in 80 Days. He was also the first composer to be posthumously nominated for an Oscar for his work on The Big Country.
