Village People Vinyl Records
Village People is a disco group formed in 1977 by French music producers Jacques Morali and Henri Belolo. The group is most known for their signature on-stage costumes, including the iconic construction worker, Native American chief, cowboy, leather biker, and military officer. The group's original lineup consisted of lead singer Victor Willis, Felipe Rose (Native American), David Hodo (construction worker), Randy Jones (cowboy), Glenn Hughes (leather biker), and Alex Briley (military officer).
The group released their first studio album, Village People, in 1978 and its follow-up, Cruisin', in 1979. Both albums were well received and produced hit singles such as “Macho Man”, “In the Navy”, “Y.M.C.A.”, and “Go West”. Village People's biggest success came with their third album, In the Street, in 1980. The album's single “Sex Over the Phone” topped the dance charts and the group went on to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show in 1981.
The group has released nine studio albums over the years and has sold over 100 million records worldwide. Some of their most popular songs include “Macho Man”, “In the Navy”, “Y.M.C.A.”, “Go West”, and “Sex Over the Phone”.
An interesting fact about Village People is that the group has had several different lead singers over the years, including original lead singer Victor Willis, Ray Simpson, Eric Anzalone, and current lead singer Alexander Briley.
