  • "The Sound Of Jazz" - Red Allen Stars, Billie Holiday & Band, Count Basie All Stars, The Jimmy Giuffre Trio, Mal Waldron, Pee Wee Russell

"The Sound Of Jazz" was a sequel to the 1957 CBS television series Seven Lively Arts and was one of the first major jazz programs to be broadcast on American television. The one-hour program was broadcast live from CBS Studio 58, Town Theater, 851 9th Avenue, New York, on Sunday, December 8, 1957, 5 p.m. local time.

The show was presented by the media critic of the New York Herald Tribune, John Crosby, conducted by Jack Smight and produced by Robert Herridge. The jazz critics Nat Hentoff and Whitney Balliett were the main musical advisors.

"The Sound Of Jazz" brought together 32 leading swing era musicians, including Count Basie, Lester Young, Ben Webster, Billie Holiday, Jo Jones and Coleman Hawkins; Chicago style musicians from the same period as Henry 'Red' Allen, Vic Dickenson and Pee Wee Russell; and younger 'modern' musicians such as Gerry Mulligan, Thelonious Monk and Jimmy Giuffre.
