Tahliah Barnett, aka FKA twigs, has been going through a tough time since the release of her successful Mercury nominated debut album "LP1". Separations, operations, heartache; Barnett processes her traumatic experiences in her music and rises like Phoenix from the ashes with her second studio LP, audibly injured but more than ever. The album was produced by FKA twigs themselves, just like its predecessor, and completely re-explores their sound universe. Over the last 3 years, it has been produced in London, New York and Los Angeles in collaboration with Nicolas Jaar and others.The beats and arrangements of the album reflect the turbulent times of FKA twigs. Some of the tracks sound intentionally washed out, almost exhausted, in a way that might remind you of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds' Skeleton Tree. Besides songs that go back to "LP1"'s baroque beat odyssey - for example the song "Holy Terrain", which Future eatured - there are also several tracks where drums merge into the ether and traditional song structures give way to an impressionistic, artistic sound design. In these cases Nicolas Jaar's involvement in Magdalene is most noticeable.
