"Same As It Ever Was" is the second album from House of Pain, which followed their highly successful album "Fine Malt Lyrics". Released in 1994 and reaching #12 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Billboard 200, this album saw Everlast change his rap style considerably, unveiling a much more distinctive and recognizable approach. Everlast sounds twisted, damaged and insane. He grabs the listener's attention and never lets go on such entertaining tracks as "Back From The Dead", "Over There Shit" and "Runnin' Up On Ya". The theme of "House of Pain is anything but groundbreaking. But an abundance of strong, clever hooks and Everlast's psychedelic rapping make "Same As It Ever Was" consistently appealing.
