Laura Marling – Song For Our Daughter

Laura Marling is one of the most important English singer-songwriters of our time. She is regularly mentioned in the same breath with Joni Mitchell, and that comparison is not so far-fetched. Marling therefore writes high-level songs. Her previous album (Semper Femin) was nominated for a Grammy as best folk album in 2018. In her own country she was nominated no less than five times as the best British female solo artist, in 2011 she also won this award. With Song For Our Daughter - her seventh album again - Marling will undoubtedly be successful. Written from the perspective of parents to a child who is not (yet) there, Marling sings about the wise life lessons she wants to give her imaginary daughter. The lyrics dig deep, musically the album is of pleasantly enchanting simplicity. The gently meandering guitar sound, Marling's serene, soothing voice: as a listener you would almost be jealous of the still unborn fruit for whom this singer sings her wonderful songs. Fortunately that is not necessary and we can buy this beautiful album instead.
