RSD 2023 title!
Legendary among psychedelic record collectors for decades, the lone LP from Tulsa, OK's Marble Phrogg is finally getting a legitimate reissue. Originally released in 1968 on Derrick Records and pressed in a scant edition of just 250 , these were only sold in and around Tulsa, and quickly disappeared. Prized by heavy psych enthusiasts not just for its rarity, but also for the ten blistering versions of classics from Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Iron Butterfly, Steppenwolf, the Rolling Stones, the Byrds, and Donovan, as well as two powerful, overdriven originals.
This has been lovingly remastered from a pristine original vinyl copy by Garrett Haines at Tree Lady Studios, and manufactured at Hand Drawn Pressing in Addison, TX on 180 gram "Marble Phrogg Green" vinyl. Guestroom Records is thrilled to announce that it will be exclusively available for Record Store Day 2023 in a strictly limited edition of 1500.
Emerging from the ashes of Guthrie and Stillwater, OK garage bands the Sin-Sa-Shuns and Captain Hook & The Pirates, Marble Phrogg distinguished themselves from the teen dance ready Beatles wannabes, by ratcheting up the fuzz and covering a variety of top heavy hits of the day. Recorded by Bill Davis of Derrick Records to two track tape in a vacant office building in the summer of 1968, and released to local stores that same year. Disappearing into obscurity for two decades, Marble Phrogg was rediscovered by the Acid Archives collector crowd in the early 90s, resulting in a slew of poor quality bootlegs as well as Record Collector Magazine calling it one of the Top 100 Rarest Records. Now a fresh generation can dig a newly remastered version, fully licensed and authorized by members of the band.
