Remastered. Robert Johnson's signature recordings of 1936 / 37 have influenced oodles of musicians of later generations, including Jimi Hendrix, Peter Green, and Eric Clapton, among many others. However, Johnson's recordings barely sold during his lifetime and he mostly played on street corners and in seedy dives. It took until the 1961 re-release of his recordings on the LP "King Of The Delta Blues Singers" for his work to reach a wider audience
Today, Robert Johnson is considered a master of the blues (especially the Mississippi Delta blues style) and one of the best guitarists around. He was also one of the first musicians to be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. His poorly documented life resulted in wild legend-making. Because he made non-religious music, he was said to have committed his soul to the devil (according to one legend, he made a pact with the devil at the crossroads, most likely south of Rosedale, Mississippi). The devil sadly redeemed Johnson's soul at the age of 27
Fortunately, the original 1961 collection of his songs from 1936 / 37 is now available in remastered form. Johnson has never sounded so alive before. Didn't the devil do a great job there?
