British-Indian-American sitar player, producer, film composer and activist Anoushka Shankar presents her first live album since 2001's Live At Carnegie Hall: Between Us... is her debut on the German label LEITER and draws on material from four solo albums, but also includes a previously unreleased track. With this album, Anoushka Shankar continues a long tradition of collaboration that began as a 13-year-old girl playing sitar alongside her father and teacher Ravi Shankar. On Between Us. shankar's regular collaborator - and master of hang a.k.a. hand pan - Manu Delago performs with the Dutch Metropole Orkest under the direction of renowned conductor and arranger Jules Buckley. The album was recorded in 2018 during a short series of concerts in the Netherlands.
Anoushka Shankar remembers the concerts fondly. "Going on stage with an orchestra where the audience is standing and giving back a lot of energy, I just loved that electricity. I'm used to that from other shows, but with an orchestra show, it felt really fresh and fun. Having multiple shows with the same orchestra, getting to know Jules a little better, and continuing to work closely with Manu: It was like being in a perfect world..."
Between Us... captures a magical, unforgettable collaboration at its peak and, as the title suggests, provides all the evidence you could possibly need to prove this perfect world...
