Due to different opinions about the roles in the band, David Knopfler left Dire Straits during the recording of the third album "Making Movies". He felt confined by his brother Mark and found with his own song contributions no hearing in the band. David's departure coincided with Mark Knopfler's ambitions to further develop his skills as a composer and lyricist - which fortunately succeeded. "Romeo and Juliet" became one of the most famous hits of the Dire Straits, but also "Tunnel of Love" and "Skateaway" are good proofs for it. "Making Movies" is more jazzy than the two previous albums, with musically more complex arrangements and a new wave-inspired production.
