  • Faye Webster loves the feel of the so-called first take and the directness of writing a song, then heading to the recording studio the very next day to record the track live with her band. Listening closely to the 23-year-old Atlanta songwriter's confident and straightforwardly created albums, it's clear why: emotions are bundled and processed here that are so painful they almost come alive at any moment. Webster captures the spark before it has a chance to fade; lines of lyrics are put to paper before they have a chance to escape. In doing so, her signature sound brings together a whisper-quiet and home-recorded vocal with the sound of the band in a room.

"I Know I'm Funny Haha" is Webster's most perfect expression of this particular emotional and musical alchemy. Following her breakthrough 2019 album release "Atlanta Millionaires Club" on Secretly Canadian, Webster's career continues to flourish. Her sound draws on both the steel guitar-influenced singer songwriter pop and country of the 1970s, as well as Atlanta's rap and R&B community influences and personalities from the time Webster first found her home at Awful Records

In the past two years since "Atlanta Millionaires Club," Webster's profile has steadily evolved after she played festivals like Austin City Limits and Bonnaroo, one of her songs found a place on Barack Obama's 2020 favorite songs playlist and the musician also fell in love. "This record is coming from a less lonely place," Webster explains of the album "I Know I'm Funny Haha," which makes her seem more complete, bright and confident. Above all, Webster's music is informed by her strong personality - this is also evident in her work as an acclaimed photographer of portraits and still lifes. Many of her tracks contain Girl Group-like vocal or spoken-word passages that further color her atypical song stories.
