Holy Hive – Float Back To You

The band's debut album, Float Back To You, recorded in Queens at the Diamond Mine studio (of which Steinweiss is co-owner), consists of 10 original songs, a cover of "Be Thou By My Side" (originally by the Sixties British group Honeybus) and an adaptation of the Irish folk song "Red Is The Rose."

Steinweiss produced the album, and guests include harpist Mary Lattimore, Leon Michels (El Michels Affair) on saxophone and keyboard, Shannon Wise (The Shacks) on backing vocals, Dave Guy (The Roots) on trumpet, Nick Movshon on bass, and Paul Springs' wife Sophia Heymans on piano. Homer Steinweiss has worked as a professional drummer for twenty years, during which time he has contributed the beat to hits by Amy Winehouse, Bruno Mars, the Jonas Brothers, St. Vincent and Charles Bradley - to name a few. As a founding member of Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, he toured the world with the legendary group until he decided to pursue a career in the studio. Paul Spring has released seven albums of original songs as a solo artist, including, "Home of Song," a critically acclaimed record of children's songs. Multi-instrumentalist Joe Harrison has played with Frank Dukes and Charles Bradley, among others. The symbiotic relationship between Steinweiss and Spring is like that of a woodpecker perched on the back of a rhinoceros. Spring's delicate vocals and fluttering guitar float in perfect harmony over Homer's beefy drumming

Holy Hive are a multi-layered band: some things about them are immediately apparent, others only later. Like the title track of the album, which first sounds like a beautiful classical love song and then turns out to be the feelings of a woman who is looking forward to her cat. That's what Holy Hive stands for: The music goes seductively easy into the ear and then unfolds very slowly - until it blossoms completely.
