Interpol's This Mirror Weighs a Ton is the New York band's eighth album, arriving in 2026 as their first in four years and their debut for Partisan Records. The record keeps Interpol's core tension-and-atmosphere intact, but places it in a broader setting: themes of reflection, distortion and perception run through the songs, with familiar shapes bent into something slightly stranger.

Produced by Andrew Wyatt and mixed by Dave Fridmann, the album widens Interpol's sound without making a show of it. Synthesizers, strings, acoustic guitar and additional percussion are folded into the arrangements, while Paul Banks, Daniel Kessler and Sam Fogarino remain the center of gravity. That balance between restraint and new texture feels especially clear on the title track and "See Out Loud," a paired introduction that moves between spacious unease and a more immediate drive. Source material also notes a rare lead vocal from Kessler on "See Out Loud," alongside visuals directed by Nick Steinhardt.

What makes this set appealing is that it presents change as continuity rather than rupture. Nearly three decades into the Banks-Kessler-Fogarino creative partnership, Interpol are still sharpening their language instead of abandoning it, and This Mirror Weighs a Ton sounds like a deliberate next step rather than a reset.
