  • It's been almost exactly two years since James Blake turned the international music world upside down with his minimalist, introspective yet extremely haunting electro sound - and now he has finally opened the next chapter: his new album "Overgrown" is being released.

On his second album, he impressively demonstrates how intensively he has worked on his songwriting skills. More sophisticated, catchier and even more hypnotic than before, this time he also tackles hip-hop and house and incorporates his trademark approach. Guests on the album are Brian Eno (!) and RZA.

James Blake was the British newcomer of the year in 2011. After his #2 place in the BBC's "Sound Of 2011" ranking, everything took off: This was followed by nominations at the BRITS and for the Mercury Prize, hits such as "Limit To Your Love" and, in parallel, his first album of the same name, which stormed the charts internationally.

Instead of resting on his laurels, Blake then released several EPs and shone on stage - it was not without reason that the Berliner Zeitung described a concert at Berlin's Berghain venue as "to kneel down to: it was the biggest and greatest concert that had been seen on any stage in Berlin for a long time."

    Reviews

"Grandiose second album by the British minimalist." (Rolling Stone, April 2013)

"Another masterpiece, including a short rap interlude from RZA. Anyone who used to be a fan of Massive Attack will love this James Blake." (stereoplay, May 2013)

"Blake's efforts to reinstall good soul and R'n'B in contemporary electronic music are even more evident on OVERGROWN than on his debut album. You only have to listen to "To The Last" once. If that's not a contemporary R'n'B song, we don't know what is." (musikexpress, May 2013)

,,... fascinates with its equally fragile and soulful falsetto vocals, wrapped in a sparse sound garment of dabbed piano chords, electronic soundscapes and beats." (Stereo, June 2013)
