King Curtis – Live At Fillmore West

"Live At Fillmore West" is the ultimate live album from KING CURTIS and a brilliant confirmation of the status that the saxophonist has Saxophonist enjoys in modern music. A soul legend that belongs in every record collection!

The album includes three concerts Curtis played with his KINGPINS at the Fillmore West in San Francisco in March 1971 in San Francisco. On these evenings the group performed as Support for ARETHA FRANKLIN - they were her backing band. Known for their skillful rhythmic interplay, the band featured were Cornell Dupree on guitar, Billy Preston on electric organ and Bernard electric organ and Bernard "Pretty" Purdie on drums were active; in addition, there was support from the unique Memphis Horns.

CURTIS interpreted the biggest hits of the era, including STEVIE WONDER's "Signed, Seales, Delivered (I'm Yours)" and "Whole Lotta Love" by LED ZEPPELIN, making it a perfect Platform for the soul of the KINGPINS. Grandiose versions of "A Whiter Shade Of Pale" and "I Stand Accused" are among the Highlights and absolute rockers like "Changes" and "Memphis Soul Stew" are the heart of the album.

Tragically, CURTIS was was killed just one week after the release of this album after an After an argument with two junkies in his New York apartment stabbed to death. On the day of his death, the album was ranked #54 on the on the Billboard 200 - his greatest success as a solo artist
