The Future is the ninth studio album by Leonard Cohen, released in 1992, and was Cohen's longest album to date, at nearly an hour in length. Both the fall of the Berlin Wall and the 1992 Los Angeles riots took place during the writing and recording of the album, in which Cohen expressed his feeling for the turbulence of the world
Reviews
F.W. Haver in HiFiVision 2/93: "Pop-CD of the month. Cohen's songs are a blazing plea for the all-healing power of love, when he goes through pain, tenderness and longing in a broken voice
At the same time, the once so sparse folkie is musically a long way from the softly purred 'Suzanne' of the Sixties. This time he has clothed his apocalyptic pop rock in palatable and in places even bombastic arrangements. But I'm particularly taken with his love songs: poignant melodies and warm harmonies come together to form a fluffy carpet of sound on which blatantly erotic lyrics cavort."
