Lightning Slim – Rooster Blues

Lightning Slim's sound is somewhat derivative of Howling Wolf although he is his own man. It is real Louisiana Swamp music with a rawness that is refreshing. Slim had some regional jukebox hits in the early and mid-60s in the lowland South all the way above Memphis, which is where and when I first heard him, dancing to such gems as "Long Leany Mama". This album is a great example of Slim's work with engaging harmonica riffs (Lazy Lester?) backing up his vocals. If you like electric blues, you will enjoy this distinctive style and Slim's unique voice. It was real kick-and-stab-juke-joint music in its day. You can feel its power.
