The album was originally released on September 27, 2005, on Fallout Boy founder Pete Wentz's Decaydance Records label. The latter had previously heard demos of the band and signed them before they had ever performed live.The 13 songs on "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out" were recorded at SOMD! Studios in College Park, Maryland. Matt Squire (Good Charlotte, The Used, Taking Back Sunday) was responsible for the production.The album became a commercial success. The second single "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" made it into the Top 10 of the charts in the USA.
