Scratch My Back / And I'll Scratch Yours – Peter Gabriel (2xLP)

Peter Gabriel created this exchange with his album "Scratch My Back / And I'll Scratch Yours". Gabriel and other artists reinterpret songs by other artists.

The first half of this double album, called "Scratch My Back", was originally released in 2010. Peter Gabriel covers songs by various established artists, for example David Bowie, Paul Simon and Lou Reed, but also takes on works by younger bands such as Arcade Fire, Bon Iver or Radiohead and reinterprets their work.

Many of these artists had considerable success in 2013. Now they responded to Peter Gabriel's project by covering his titles. Some decided to create true-to-original covers, while others created reinterpretations that only vaguely recall the original. For example Lou Reed's "Solsbury Hill" or the neurotic, futuristic version of "Mother Of Violence", reinterpreted by Brian Eno, who also co-wrote Bowie's "Heroes", which Gabriel also featured on "Scratch My Back" covers.

In addition to the aforementioned artists, others also contributed to the album, including Arcade Fire ("Games Without Frontiers"), Elbow ("Mercy Street") and Regina Spektor ("Blood Of Eden").
