The Dirty Dozen Brass Band – What's Going On (Pure Pleasure)

In 2006, exactly one year after "Katrina", in the aftermath of the evil natural disaster, which showed the incompetence of the infrastructure of the city, nicknamed Crescent City, as well as that of the army corps, engineers and the federal government, so during this time, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band dedicated themselves to tragedy in the only way they know, recreating the same kind of confusion and anger that Marvin Gaye felt and expressed in 1971, by presenting their own interpretation of Gaye's classic "What's Goin' On".

This is a question that turns out to be all the more painful when one considers the efforts - at the time this recording was released - of an entire region that is not only trying to rebuild homes and businesses, but is also trying to preserve a culture. The Dirty Dozen recruited several singers to help out with the supporting songs. Excerpts from speeches by the mayor of New Orleans, Ray Nagin, after the hurricane form the introduction for the brass players, who glide along the dark, funky nuances of Gaye's title melody.
