The Electric Light Orchestra was probably the only band that brought a complete UFO on stage at their concerts. The solution: When the colourful troupe around the musical multi-talent Jeff Lynne (he was the producer, guitarist, singer and composer of almost all E. L.O.'s works) was in a hurry to find out what it was all aboutHits) set off on their "Out Of The Blue" tour in 1978, the lighting system of their stage consisted of a 25 m diameter replica of a flying saucer with laser and more than 500 spotlights, which lifted off the stage floor at the beginning of the concert with a lot of smoke and thunder and then floated above the heads of the musicians as the E. L.O. logo.
Besides these visual extravagances, E. L.O. also afforded themselves a good dozen top-class albums in the course of their band history, including classics like "Discovery", "Time" and "A New World Record".
The sound of the Electric Light Orchestra, originally founded by ex-Move member Roy Wood, was characterised by sophisticated string arrangements and racy melodies performed on stage by three violinists and cellists, among others. The hit list of E. L.O. is long - very long... The following are just a few examples: "Hold On Tight", "Mr. Blue Sky", "Turn To Stone", "Rock 'n' Roll Is King", "Livin' Thing", "Don't Bring Me Down", "All Over The World" and "Evil Woman".
