  • Music history knows the small town of Gary in the state of Indiana first and foremost as the birthplace of Jackson 5. The town near Chicago with its 80,000 inhabitants is also home to rapper Freddie Gibbs, who began his career sixteen years ago

Now the 37-year-old, whose pseudonym comes from the Blaxploitation film "Black Caesar", releases his new Kollabo album "Bandana" with the Californian DJ, producer, rapper and multi-instrumentalist Madlib. The longplayer also contains features of Pusha T, Killer Mike, Yasiin Bey, Black Thought and Anderson Paak. Freddie Gibbs and Madlib's first collaboration dates back to 2014, when they released the highly acclaimed album "Piñata". The longplayer became a genre classic in no time at all and found its way into various annual best lists, including Billboard, FACT, Pitchfork and SPIN

With "Bandana" the two of them now tie in seamlessly. The duo unites two opposing talents: Madlib is a productive producer with a penchant for deep jazz and soul who previously worked with underground hip hop icons like J Dilla on Champion Sound and MF Doom on the highly acclaimed Madvillainy. Gibbs, on the other hand, is an aggressive street rapper known for his gripping stories and brutally honest lyrics, which are marked by experiences from his past. Freddie and Madlib have an undeniable chemistry and manage to get the best out of each other

Together they create a rousing, soulful sound that has something to offer fans from the entire hip hop spectrum.
