He had them all - the girls from the James Bond films with the incomparably smart Sean Connery. But Marlon Brando, Michael Caine, Robert Redford and Jane Fonda, who more or less danced to the tune of their directors, certainly played to his music as well. John Barry started his international career as a film composer in the service of Her Majesty. The characteristic Bond theme for "007 chases Dr. No", that mysterious cracking guitar trailer supported by mighty brass, became the duty and freestyle of the successors in office and echoes in the ears of the super villains together with their evil followers.
Besides the fully orchestrated sound of the Agents strips, the album holds some very differentiated music like the collage-like "The Chase" drifting on intense couch sound and the melancholic theme from "King Rat". Airy and subtle, Barry lets dissonant chord clouds rise from the flute movement ("Seance On A Wet Afternoon"), forms sharpened motifs from mild sounds ("Ipcress File") and unrolls the programmatic ground for the nature adventure "Born Free" with a warming string carpet. This Speakers Corner production was made using analog master tape and mastering 100% pure analog. All licenses and GEMA fees have been paid.Reviews"The first side belongs to Bond themes from 'Dr. No' to 'Thunderball', the second side then Side then introduces music from 'King Rat' or 'Born Free' 'Born Free' (...) The recording quality is excellent for the time, the Excellent for the time, the quality of the repressing by by Speakers Corner is equally so." (Good Times, August/September 2018)"Present album (...) must have if you are a film buff and especially a fan of the Bond series." (Stereo, September 2018)
