  • Released in 1970, a month before the Beatles' swansong "Let It Be," McCartney was Paul's first solo album. Notable for the fact that he recorded all the instruments and vocals himself, except for some backing vocals sung by Linda.

It's an experimental album and the original home of 'Maybe I'm Amazed'. "The McCartney album was a lot of fun," Paul recalls, "because I got a machine from EMI, just a four-track, and I just had it in my living room where I was living in London at the time. I just went into the day like Monsieur Magritte. I'd go in and do a little bit and think of something and call it a night. It was very interesting, and it had a certain unpolishedness to it because I got going after the Beatles, we all felt that, I think.

During the Beatles phase, I had said to John, "I think I should do an album called Paul McCartney Goes Too Far." He said, 'That's a great idea, man, you should do that.' Of course, I never actually did it. I just thought, 'Well, one day I'll do it.'"
