The Pentangle's 1968 self-titled debut featuring Terry Cox, Bert Jansch, Jacqui McShee, John Renbourn and Danny Thompson. It brought together their diverse influences of folk, jazz, blues, early music and contemporary songwriting
One of the band's most commercially successful albums, it reached number 21 in the UK charts. At the time the album was recorded, the members of Pentangle were already established musicians in their own fields and had played together in a wide variety of combinations. Jansch and Renbourn were well known as solo artists and played together regularly, including on the "Bert And John" album. McShee sang in folk and blues pubs and clubs and recorded "Another Monday" with Renbourn. Cox and Thompson were in-demand session musicians who had played in Alexis Korner's band.
Reviews
"But the high-class music, especially to be especially on the instrumental 'Bells' and 'Waltz' and 'Waltz,' was topped by McShee's wonderful vocals alongside Sandy Denny, McShee is and remains Denny, McShee is and remains the most beautiful Voice of Albion in her profession. Also in the Chorus with Renbourn and Jansch she shines this vinyl reissue is probably the result of the very goes back to the very good good digital remaster from Sanctuary 2009, it brings the brings out the homey soprano very nicely.. to shine."
