"The B-52's" is the debut and absolute classic of the band from Athens, Georgia. Produced by Chris Blackwell, the album reached number 59 on the Billboard 200, while the single "Rock Lobster" claimed number 56 on the Hot 100. Despite its supposedly unoiled edginess, the B- 52'S funk still invited you to dance.The album is simply fun. Songs like "Planet Claire", "Dance This Mess Around" and "Rock Lobster" are terrific songs that underlined that the B-52's penchant for "camp culture" was not just a fad, but was actually a worldview that resulted in brilliant pop singles that in turn influenced mainstream pop culture.
