Reverend Gary Davis was a master musician whose remarkable fingerstyle guitar playing created a unique brand of gospel, blues and ragtime. These beautifully remastered 1935 recordings are seminal performances which demonstrate why he influenced so many great guitarists including Jerry Garcia, Ry Cooder and Jorma Kaukonen.
Includes two classic blues numbers, "I'm Throwin' Up My Hands," and "Cross and Evil Woman Blues."
Davis became a key figure in the folk and blues revival of the 1960s. He accompanied his mesmerizing guitar playing with a voice that cried with pain and joy. Davis's songs have been recorded by Bob Dylan, Peter, Paul & Mary, Taj Mahal and the Grateful Dead.
