Prince's 1989 soundtrack album for "Batman" reissued on vinyl
Prince's 1985-1992 albums are part of a vinyl reissue campaign from Warner Bros. Prince's heyday-era record label is set to release nine of his biggest post-Purple Rain titles newly pressed to wax in 2016, starting with Around the World in a Day on June 21. One or two albums are to be released per month after that in the order they were originally recorded.
Some of the albums in this campaign fall in the era when CD sales took over the industry and Warner made little to no vinyl editions of the records. These new pressings feature the albums in their original format.
Prince was not the first choice to write and perform songs for the 1989 film starring Michael Keaton, the task was originally to fall to Michael Jackson. Two separate soundtracks of the movie were released: One was the score by Danny Elfman and the other was an album of new songs Prince wrote just for the film. Prince's campy single "Batdance," from the soundtrack album, reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
