The members of the British group Hawkwind are considered the founders of so-called space rock, a psychedelic style of hard rock. The band was formed in 1969 and released its first album in 1970.
Founder and only constant member is guitarist Dave Brock. Hawkwind's eponymous debut album is an extensive mixture of psychedelic and progressive rock, which in the further course of music history led to the so-called space rock.
One of the pioneers in the genre, Hawkwind recorded a range of deep sounds and musical creations, combining the best of these different genres into a new whole. The band's sound is original and the approach is naive in a good sense.
This debut can be considered Hawkwind's pinnacle, capturing the true spirit of this raw and collaborative musical movement. The Pretty Things guitarist Dick Taylor produced Hawkwind after leaving his former group.
