The Kinks – Something Else By The Kinks

"Something Else" sounds like nothing else from 1967. The Kinks shift down a gear on this album, favoring acoustic ballads, dancehall numbers and moderate R&B. From the martial stomping "David Watts" to the lovely, shimmering "Waterloo Sunset," there is not a weak song on the record. And equally impressive is the emergence of Dave Davies as a songwriter. His Dylanesque "Death of a Clown" and the bluesy rocker "Love Me Till the Sun Shines" can hold their own with Ray's masterpieces and help make Something Else a fascinating album.
